Microsoft Office File Converter Pack provides a suite of converters and filters for older Microsoft Office formats in use from 1997 to 2003. When you install this package, it will only register converters that are compatible with your version of Office and Windows. Most of the converters and filters it contains are no longer in day-to-day use for Microsoft Office users. In fact, this conversion package is meant for Office 2003 but not for Office 2007, 2010, or 2013. In addition, it was written to work on Windows 98, 2000, and 32-bit XP. Do not attempt to install this package on 64-bit versions of Windows, including Vista, 7, and 8.
Microsoft Office has been on the market now for around 20 years. Microsoft has changed its file formats several times, especially in Word and Outlook. These converters and filters are designed to help you convert and import data from older versions of Office into Office 2003 as well as importing older formats that were in popular use under the DOS operating system.
The converters contained in this package include support for Microsoft Word 6, converting the file to the RTF format. Several converters are available for older ASCII, not Unicode text files, as well as a converter for the Word 97 format.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, WordPerfect dominated the word processing market running under Microsoft DOS. For that reason, there are converters in this package for both WordPerfect 5 and WordPerfect 6 files. This set of converters was meant to provide a bridge so businesses could convert and import historically significant files from their old WordPerfect systems into their workflow in Microsoft Office.
Image filters contained in this package include support for Corel Draw, WordPerfect Graphic, Computer Graphics Metafile, Encapsulated Postscript, Macintosh PICT, Portable Network Graphics, GIF, and JPEG.
